Welcome to the Jungle
As I write this, I’m in the middle of blowing up my career.
Now, you might be thinking, why would I admit this as I try to start a new business? Here’s why:
I truly believe there’s an unspoken comfort in discomfort. As I take the blind leap of faith into the unknown from the career I studied to pursue, I know there’s something out there that’s better-suited for me. I know I’m not the only twenty-something who feels this way. I know that even in times of uncertainty, clarity will eventually come. And I hope this business venture brings it.
The real world is like a jungle. It’s beautiful yet volatile. It cultivates a prosperous place to live, but only if you fight to survive. So I’m metaphorically flying from the safety of my coop and landing on the jungle floor. It’s equal parts exhilarating and terrifying, but the excitement that lies in the mystery of what’s to come far outweighs the fear of failing.
The allure of interior design and creative freedom has always been one of my biggest passions, but I’ve always put it on the back burner. Until now. I envision a life where my work doesn’t feel like work. That’s a pretty luxurious and unrealistic thought for many people, but turning a passion project into a real, income-producing business feels like the simplest way to achieve that. Right now, the notion of achieving this goal seems almost impossible. But I’m writing this in the hopes of being able to look back one day and realize how far I’ve come.
If you’ve ever been passionate about something, but unsure if you have it in you to turn it into something bigger, I’m in the same boat as you. It’s often hard to see past your self-doubt and jaded expectations for your future after leaving a job you don’t feel fulfilled in. But if you look closely, there’s a speck of light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to hack it through the jungle to get there.
So here’s to starting something new and hoping mere dreams someday become a reality.
